These stunning dangle carved blue sapphire and diamond ear pendants are from the 1920s. A flower head cluster of diamonds surmount a diamond circled carved blue sapphire cabochon that leads to a second carved sapphire cabochon. Diamond florets separate these two intricately carved sapphires. These pierced pendant earrings have a stud backing and are crafted in 14kt (585) white and yellow gold.
Carved sapphire, emeralds and rubies became a popular jewelry design in the Art Deco Jewelry Period. This style of gemstone cutting originated in India and influenced fine European jewelry designers. Frequent jewelry would be embellished with fine stones that were cut into flower heads, leaves, fruits and berries.
